Methodology

How CabinOK compares manufacturer specs to published airline rules — with confidence bands and a strict publish gate. Internal engineering notes may use other codenames; this page describes what you see publicly.

States

  • COMPATIBLE — official rules fully satisfied for the context (HIGH/MEDIUM confidence only publicly)
  • NOT_OFFICIALLY_COMPATIBLE — at least one hard official constraint failed
  • CONDITIONAL — borderline margin, missing soft field, or caveat
  • AIRLINE_APPROVAL_REQUIRED — allowed only with airline approval (e.g. Wh band)
  • UNKNOWN — missing critical product or airline data; we do not guess

Publish gate

  • UNKNOWN-by-default for public definitive answers
  • LOW confidence never shows green COMPATIBLE
  • INSUFFICIENT → UNKNOWN only
  • Practical/traveler notes never upgrade to green

Dimensional rules (MVP)

  • Canonical unit: centimeters; inches convert at exactly 2.54
  • any_rotation: sort product and limit triples descending, compare pairwise
  • Near-miss band: ±0.5 cm → CONDITIONAL, never auto-promoted to COMPATIBLE
  • Prefer overall dims including wheels/handles when comparing to airline overall limits

Power banks

Wh compared to airline-published cabin max and approval max only. We never invent a 100 / 160 Wh default when the airline ruleset is missing those fields.

Trip mode

Strictest-leg merge: NOT_OFFICIALLY_COMPATIBLE > AIRLINE_APPROVAL_REQUIRED > UNKNOWN > CONDITIONAL > COMPATIBLE.
